Robert Gereige is a passionate manager of the iconic Cafe Rosco on St Kilda Road, his family has ownedfor over 26 years now.
His passion is inspired by a regular customer whom in the early 1990's, learnt one night she was highly allergic to garlic. She fainted in the bathroom having collapsed from consuming garlic. Robert's father arranged for the ambulanceto take her straight to hospital and cared for her until they arrived. It was the day he saved her life and she learnt why she didn't feel well after certain meals she cooked and ate out.
From that point on, Robert's father wrote clear and concise instructions to the kitchen on how to prepare and handleher food. Everything was made from scratch for her and every ingredient was given careful consideration.
Robert has created a culture within Cafe Rosco of being helpful and educative to customers with allergies , even alarming customers of hidden ingredients found in some foods.
For Robert, its all about caring, being informed and having chefs and staff whom also share his vision. From writing specific instructions on a customers order, to having fresh ingredients to cater for all allergies, its all in his attitude, care and systems of his restaurant. As he would say, the first step is to be friendly and open to modifying your foodfor the customers health and well being.
Hi, my name is Samantha & I find myself with this wonderful opportunity of working with Anaphylaxis Network Australia.
I have been a hair & makeup artist for approximately 30 years, my roles have lead down many paths from salon, to hair product research & development & advisory hotline for a major pharmaceutical company to my bridal business and currently working in television.
My greatest role is Motherhood. It has changed my life completely. The love & care of my two beautiful children has filled my heart with a joy that knows no boundaries, except at 3am with Lego underfoot!
My youngest Master O has no known allergies.
My eldest, Master C has tree nut & peanut allergies. Anaphylactic allergies. Life threatening. Daunting.
For some time now I have been thinking what else I can do with my life? What are my passions? Photography, baking, great food, travel, my children. It hit me one night when I couldn’t sleep, the thought of my boy going off on a school camp 3 hours away without me, I realised I had to somehow get involved in the allergy arena, to educate the public, to educate schools, to educate their peers, to find a cure.I had to be his Champion. To make this world a safer place for my son. I really believe we can find a cure for anaphylaxis. I found A.N.A. - or we found each other. I call it destiny, I believe the timing was uncanny and perfect.
My experiences as a mother learning to live with anaphylaxis have been long & slow, a stomach churning emotional roller coaster ride, but I don’t want to get off, I’m staying on until we have a safer world for all our children, family & friends.
